About camera, what do you think of 48MP Sony IMX586?

Also I have been thinking, rather than a punch hole, why not using only a back camera with a hinge system like zenfone6 but without motor, only manual rotation of the camera. Motor feels like the mechanism can be broken at some point, so not very durable, and motor take space and complexity.
Advantages :

– This way we would save space as we’ll have only one camera
– full front screen without notch or punch hole.
– best rear camera use for the selfy/front camera use.
– save cost as only one camera.

I’m not enough aware of existing cameras to challenge this Sony reference.
But,for the choice of implementation, as I said in another post, I think it may be a good idea to have one block (only 1 camera?) that can be rotated.
+1 for this choice.

Does that camera is enough to have wide range and a true zoom?

Curently, sony has got some issues to for ressonding to all his smartphones manufacturers…

But yes it s a good camera.

I don’t know for the idea of remouving the cam motor, i think we could create more risk to break the device and it s less practicle to activate manualy the selfie camera.

On Zenfone 6 accelerometer fold back the camera.

It could be better to use the rear screen to take photo (but maybe not possible with e ink screen ?).

@Oraison yes I seen that sony cameras can’t meet market need. Thanks to 20-cameras-phones.
Yes it’s possible to use the eink to take pictures (on yotaphone it’s possible) but maybe for video call it’s not so great.

Bonjour Pierre,

Le Oneplus 8 Pro utilise le même capteur principale grande angle ET ultra grand angle (si j’ai bien compris la conférence de présentation)
En gros on pourrait utiliser un seul capteur qui ferait les deux, je ne savais pas que c’était possible. L’idée c’est d’optimiser encore plus l’espace. Ils ont développé un tout petit moteur électrique qui fait varier la distance entre les lentilles. ça rajoute de la complexité mais au même temps le module escamotable pourrait être plus petit donc laisser plus de place pour d’autres composants. Je me demande si le mouvement exercé par ce moteur pourrait être remplacé par un mouvement manuel de l’utilisateur afin de supprimer ce mini moteur électrique (éventuelle problème de fiabilité, on sait jamais)

Sinon pour le choix du capteur on peut peut etre partir sur le Sony IMX689 (48MP) qui est le dernier sorti, il montre des bons résultats. ça sort des photos en 12 MP par défaut mais on peut très bien avoir la résolution maxi 48 MP.
Pour l’optimisation du software on peut se rapprocher de la société DxO Mark, ils proposent une prestation et un accompagnement des constructeurs pour optimiser l’appareil photo. Depuis quelques mois ils peuvent aider pour la partie “son” également. Comme le son est très important dans les vidéos, ils ont intégré cela aussi. Avec 2, 3 micros et deux bons hauts parleurs ce serait top.

If you think about it, isnt the camera popup better for video recording?
Because when its out of the case (popup) for recording, it has very better thermals than a camera that is stuck inside the case… Or am i wrong?

I would use the phone mainly to record video of my drawing and tutorial process, so i hope we can get a very good camera for that, maybe the most important thing is the OIS rather than EIS.

The more bigger the sensor, the overall better the image.

If i can suggest, to make it also compatibile with H265 codec, so we can save up to 30% on Storage and also if i can suggest, to make a Pro version of the Phone, with at least 256GB of memory! (For the pro)

I hope that the design of the camera will be okay and not overheat the camera itself
But i hope it will be good since its Popup and has the advantage of being outside the enclosure.

When recording a video it is not the camera that heats the device but the processor that works to decode the video stream.
the pop-up camera will therefore have no effect on the temperature.

the H265 codec must be supported by the processor, otherwise there is the possibility of having AV1 or MPEG-5 on the next processor.

Sony reste une référence en technologie d’objectif d’appareil-photo pour smartphone, une grande majorité des fabricants vont les chercher chez eux… d’où le problème de capacité de fourniture.
Je pense qu’un bon objectif, permettant de faire de bonnes photos est le choix équilibres car plus la résolution de l’objectif est élevé (Sans être un technicien), le poids des photos s’alourdissent et donc prend de la place sur la mémoire (Pour ceux qui n’envoient pas tout dans le Cloud).
La nouvelle concurrence sur la photo va se jouer sur la gestion logicielle… Google a jeté la pierre dans la marre avec leur gamme Google Pixel, référence en photos… car même Adobe sont allés débaucher leur responsable du développement de l’interface pour développer leur gamme d’application photo pour les smartphones
